Congratulations for making it through the first third of the semester! This semester has provided some unique challenges, and we’re here today with a couple reminders about techniques or tools you can use to help keep your courses running smoothly.
1. Use Canvas to your advantage.
Canvas can be the central hub for your class. It contains your syllabus and gradebook, and you can take it a step further by using the Canvas Announcements to communicate with your whole class. If you aren’t currently using Quizzes in Canvas, consider using them to make it very simple for students to complete those assessments whether they’re in the classroom or not. And if you’re concerned about test integrity with online quizzes, check out our post on what you need to know about using Proctorio in Canvas.
2. Expect the unexpected.
This really has been the theme of 2020, hasn’t it? And we’re not done with it yet. Variables are fluctuating rapidly, and planning ahead will help you meet them head-on. Make sure you have a Plan B for your course that you can easily implement if a student is suddenly unable to attend your class in-person. Remember to account for details such as handouts, in-class assessments, or other items. Taking the time to have a plan for those items will save you stress in the moment.
3. Stay calm.
It seems counterproductive to recommend “just be calm” to combat stress, but it’s true. Take time throughout your day for a brief break to breathe and not just run to the next thing. Pray. Prayer is so simple, yet it has a huge impact on stress levels and confidence. Whether you’re pouring out your stressors or asking for help and guidance, Jesus knows and cares.
Remember that you’re not alone throughout all this. We’re here to help you along with IT and Canvas support.
