Canvas Update: New Microsoft Teams and Meetings LTI

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Microsoft has released their new Canvas LTI after shutting down the previous Teams / Teams Meetings LTIs. Now, you can find multiple Microsoft products all through the same LTI – Microsoft Education. There’s already a handful of Microsoft products included in this LTI, and this is also where they will be adding future experiences/apps.

How can I find it?

Microsoft Education is already enabled in your course and navigation, but it will likely be near the bottom. To change where it is in your course’s navigation, go to the navigation tab in your course settings and drag and drop it to wherever you want it! While changing this, you should also disable the old Microsoft Teams Meetings and/or Microsoft Teams Classes links in your course navigation to clean it up.

How do I use it?

Once Microsoft Education is where you want it in your course navigation, click on it to open the landing page. The first time you open it, you’ll see a welcome screen where you can access information about a couple of featured tools. You can check these out, or you can just click “Continue Setup.” Once you click “Continue Setup,” you’ll see a list of tools automatically enabled for your course. Use the toggle to turn off any apps you don’t want – and don’t worry, toggling an app off isn’t permanent! Click “Done,” and Microsoft will finish the setup.

Once setup is complete, you’ll see the landing screen (what you’ll see every time you click on “Microsoft Education”) with all the apps you have enabled. Click on the app you want to use, and you’ll see all the information for that app!

How do I change what apps I have enabled?

If you want to change what apps you have enabled, click “Microsoft Education” in your course navigation to take you to the landing page. Then, click your initials/profile picture in the top right corner and choose “course settings” to take you back to the applications screen. Make whatever changes you want, then click “Done.”
